#349 - Hidden beauty 2

After much googling, this wooden structure remains a mystery to me. Is it a granary or a barn? why is it in a middle of housing estate? (see wide angle to understand what i'm talking about)

The lower part of the structure was built of cement and as tall as I am (+/- 5'7"). So, I could only photograph the wooden ceiling to get a nice angle. I love the amazing wood design! Can you feel the strength of the works? Would be great to convert into some museum or any public facility. It's a pity that such a beauty is left with no one caring for it...

I know this is a lengthy post for relaxing sunday. Hope i didnt make you yawn . .Happy Sunday!

update 24/5/07
the barn was common storage for maize.
the structure is protected history property.

Nice shot. And I'm yawning not because of sunday [it's monday already] but because of the stacks of notes I'm reading. It's going to be a crazy monday tuesday and wednesday of me. But at least I'm feeling fresh after seeing your photos :)

BTW, I guess it's a barn for feeding horse? :D

It reminds me of these old hay lofts we still can see in the Alpes...Nice wood work and nice shot. Have a good week!

I had the same thought as Alice. I haven't gone inside any of them, so I don't know what they look like.

It looks to me like a structure that was started and then abandoned, for one reason or another. I, too, love the lines and shapes. Anything geometric has great appeal. Have a good week, Kris!

It looks very historic. I'll bet there is a story behind it. Do you have historic preservation societies in Hungary? Is so maybe an email with a link to your post will being an answer.

Denton,
am sure there's one. Since I wanted to post this, i'Ve concerntrated my googling to szentes only. Anyway, we will check with a knowlegeable council man for further info. Fingers crossed!

Kate,
at first that was my impression, however, from the surroundings and the residual wooden gate i think it must be something of a history value. Otherwise the new developer would've built over it ...

Alice / Z,
yes, that too crossed my mind, those grand high wooden ceilings, i dream of one for me holiday home ..hahah, but first we have to collect the money to buy one :D

Emily,
sounds like hectic schedule! wednesday will arrived soon enough, dont worry ;)

Zsolt,
chinese zodiac suitable for men are horse, dragon...as for tiger, i know its not good for women. For me, generally the describing are quite accurate but plus other factors to consider, background, education.. etc.

Jing,
time now is Monday 22:26! watch a tv series and will call it a day :)

wish everyone a wonderful week ahead and thanks for stoppiong by! :)

It looks like a big "csűr" to me. Hmm... on thin ice at the edge of my English.
It wouldn't be a barn..... because csűr is a structure often found on a farm (or in Little Towns in Hungary;) and used for storage of animal feed, mostly corn.
Growing up there, through the slats, I recall seeing the yellow corn still on the cob stored in structures like this. They are usually fairly open so air can move through easily - to prevent mold growth.
They are usually off the ground, I guess to keep rodents and ground level moisture out. But they tend to be narrower and taller. This one looks pretty big, a mega- or gigacsűr? Dunno... but totally agree it is worth keeping and turning it into something.
I would keep its character and leave it as an open structure - no walls. How about: "A csűr” – a summer photo gallery and coffee / tea house". Cmpetition for Pano.

...wonder how old the structure is...

I agree -- an intriguing and beautiful structure.

Istvan,
you're right! someone from the town hall confirmed that it was storage for maize. One ex-officer from town hall classified it as protected property. I wonder if they intend to add a plaque or as you suggested make it open as a gallery..

Maiylah,
now that i know it is in the list of protected property ,will check for more info. ;)

Thanks again all for your visits!
