Chilling & hiatus (again)

....plastic spoon+china/porcelain = -_-
2 hours ago - 7 something in the morning, I needed coffee to kick start the day! I ordered myself a cappuccino at their café in the bus station (recently renewed). Mmmmmm..the cuppa tasted good and costs only Euro 0.60 ! Meanwhile, I thought may be I can catch some morning hours rush on camera but the place was not even half full! Guess I'll have to come back after the summer holidays.
ps. now it's 9:05am and i'm having my 2nd cuppa already! Have a good week ahead :)
pps. i'll be taken a break from DP blogging. Hope to return by September. See you soon!

Having a "do(o)g" time

Call it luck or improvement, lately I've been able to capture more people shots. The initial nervousness that I got when taking photos of strangers is slowly diminishing. Personally, I prefer candid shots more than a composed one. That said, am pretty pleased with the movement in this photo even better if the girl hadn't noticed me.

Going off for shopping, be back to read your posts ;) Have a great weekend, everyone!

another Hallmark moment

Edwin of KLDP would probably agree on the title. Am I right, Edwin?
Plenty of activities going on at the square while me, a desparate DP blogger, hanging about eyeing for cheesy moments! I decided on this shot because there's something about the friendship/intimacy between these 4 gentlemen. For a change, tell me what you dislike about this photo *evil grin..hehe*

137km from szentes 2

I'm deeply touched by the sight of this memorial , it's worth sharing with all of you ....
Those are cast iron shoes, all 60 pairs of them. The memorial was created by artist Gyula Pauer to commerates the Jewish people who were summarily executed and whose bodies were then dumped in the Danube river. Though not a Jewish hismself, he wants everyone to remember the tragic event that took place in Hungary during WWII... read more

137km from szentes...

some info. outside Szentes..
The much awaited CowParade has finally started in Budapest! It's a pity that the most impressive design (IMHO) , the "melting cow" has been damaged and sent to the cow hospital for repair. The design apparently has "upsets locals, inspires vandals" quote from the newspaper-BudapestSun *roll eyes* (read the article to understand why am rolling eyes) .
Anyhow, in the absent of my fave cow, here's a Rubic Cow :)

*thanks for letting me share this piece of info.

Everyone loves a legend

had to put "baloon" to cover up the cyclist..

Legend has it János Zenthus was the actual founder of Szentes. On paper record it is a whole different story. In fact, according to historians no such person existed!! However, that didn't stop people from founding a society in his name. Each year (last weekend) the society organises a camp by setting-up tents, holding fighting tournaments and simply re-living the middle ages for 3 days.
Enjoy your Sunday!

A room with a view

No spectacular view.........taken from 3rd floor of the library. Haven't been on this floor.
Judging by the AV equipment stored in this room, this could be the media room (noone is there to verify). Perhaps this is where they screen alternative films organised by the film club. Will find out soon..

Mr. Postman, please

That's Mr. Postman's tool to deliver us good and bad news, parcels from home and online purchases. Most importantly, they are entrusted to deliver the pension money to pensioners monthly. Our Mr. Postman is a friendly young chap. We often say "Jó napot!"* to each other on the streets :-)

* = good day!

out on the field

Got on a bus at 9.26am not knowing where i should stop exactly. Just had in my mind that I want to shoot sunflowers, something which has been on my wish list for long time. Voila..found acres upon acres of sunflowers! a common sight this time of the year at the farming area and gosh! an average flower is about 10"(25cm) in dia.! They're used for producing sunflower seeds snack and oil, I suppose. Anyway, might return there again 'cos not 100% satisfied with the shots i've got -_-.... \/ peace!

I spy with my camera...

summer wind pass by

Summer break, we shall enjoy the sun, we shall remember this moment next summer and forever! ..ok, will not attempt to sound poetic! haha

** I came across Rajesh's haiku whilst searching online, small world! He has graciously allow me to reproduce the it here. Thanks, Rajesh! You are so talented :)

Hidden Beauty

Walking along some lanes which I haven't been before, sure enough, a traditional gate (see gate here) was 'discovered' at the end of a lane. What was once a grand gate is now worn-out and seems abandoned. On closer look, you'll see finely carved flowery patent on it. How can I not take a macro shot! Isn't it lovely?

Get away

Friday night, we got to break away from all the depressing world news and ever repeating hip-hop music mtvs* , and join in the fun at the town's cocktail party (Fri-Sun)! A concert was scheduled later that night, so glow-in-the-dark accesories were in order. Enjoy your Sunday!

*english channels here are mainly news channels & MTVs

Globalisation

Two steps forward and two steps back..
I did reverse some steps to confirm that it was the "shuang-hsi" [ the yellow chinese graph] that i saw hanging over the window. The symbol which means "double happiness" is a special chinese character used during chinese wedding ceremonies.
I have lots of "wh- questions" because not everyday that i get to see something (or someone) which is related to my cultural background. But nevermind, am just happy that it gave me this photo opportunity and something to blog about!

Do our best

The river is busy with water bicycle-boats (whatever you call them) nowadays. The water theme park/camp/caravan park is filled with locals as well as visitors from nearby counties, even some foreign tourists coming for a dip or holiday. Our town isn't a tourist destination but we do try our best to line up programmes for the summer to liven up things and eventually to attract more visitors.
++++++++
Thank you , Chris of VallaurisDP for giving me an answer to my yesterday's post and creating the wonderful collage of Count Basie! also thanks everyone else for participating :)

On different note - stop the bombings , make love not war!! *sigh*

Educate me, please .......

I've seen similar type of street art in other countries, usually created using stencil & spray paint. This in particular was found near some random wall near the town's park. Can anyone tell me more? I dont think he's a famous person, right? and that code? R2-D2? :D I've been curious since I first saw it last year..
ps. thanks Lisi and Anne, i do know what is R2D2.. :D (see earlier comments)

Graffiti #2

*rainny day on the day of departure....
Train services are slowly modernising in the country. Meanwhile in our town such trains are still widely in use. Personally, I think the graffiti is refreshing as opposed to the dull grey and blue. Even nicer (again, imo) if the street artists could paint something as seen here documented by TrierDP..just love it!

{Balaton trip} Places of interest 1

As we entered the first room of Festetics Museum {Keszthely, Balaton}, classical sound of piano greeted us. What a delightful feeling, it was! They were not playing for the crowd but were probably practicing for the summer concerts, which the museum organises each week at the garden or at the splendid rooms. I found out about the concert only on the last day when on the way home(!) whilst reading one of those travel brochures :p ..won't miss it the next time!

The museum was formerly a home (palace, actually) to the Festetics family, one of the richest Hungarian aristocratic families.

Take a short tour here, if you wish :-)

Random dark corner (which i like very much)

Post vacation blues

View Tihany district, the peninsula of the lake.
Hey all! Vacation's over and now back to "work"! Since our trip was within Hungary, allow me to share some photos of our holiday until I shake off the blues, at least ;)
Destination - Lake Balaton, also known as the Hungarian sea. Why the nickname? Well, you may or may not know that Hungary is landlocked; so the place is a gem to the Hungarians as well as to some foreign tourists. The width is so huge that you'd never have the feeling that it's a lake :)
ps. got to catch up on everyone's posts, phew!
