Pigeon #1020280

Obviously, the number was made up! (It's the number of the photo). Take a closer look at the bird's leg, what's that tag on him/her? I'm curious...anyone has any idea?

Hi,

Nice shot. That fountain could be in Barcelona. Don't you find pigeons tricky to photograph?

Bob : yes, it was , the first time ..still a tricky subject. But this bird was quite slow .. ;)

Beautiful photo! I think the tag means that it's vaccinated.

One quick note: what irritates me with the new design is that I don't get feeback after submitting the comment. Before there was a note saying "comment awaiting moderation" or something like that. But now there is nothing and I don't know if it went through...

Oh, now I get it - just have to refresh the page then...

Very lovely shot!!
Lots of birds have rings on them - if you find a dead bird with a ring on, take the ring off and send it to the address written on it.

This shot came out very nicely. I like that the pigeon has all of its toes and appears to be healthy. I've seen many pigeons who didn't look so good.

Nice sunny picture, you caught her in detail. Someone must have tagged her, maybe some health organization or it may come from some other country where they are not seen in the streets.

they are tricky to photograph and I did post a photo of a pigeon ASLEEP! nice shot!

I thought you were not supposed to touch dead birds?

I try to avoid pigeons and seagulls.

Sam, is the tagging part of efforts to monitor the spread of the West Nile virus? Is it safe to handle a dead bird and remove the tag?

Nicola, I like the photo. I also find photos of wildlife to be challenging.

Fotoaddict, good photo. I like the focus on the pigeon while the background is blurred. I will have to try this technique.

At least in Portugal is very usual a sport with pigeons that consists on treat them like kings with all care and some trainning to fly from far places to their home, sometimes the owners let them fly at 2000 km or more from their home and after a few days they appear. I don't know the name of this sport in english but i can tell you this pigeons sometimes have a value of hundreds of €€€ and that tag is an id to identify the owner and the bird himself.

maiylah : heheh..at least you have dozens of sparrow shots ;)

nuno : hmmm..interesting! are they such a expensive pet?? perhaps there're certain breed not the ordinary ones that we find on the streets? i think this one belongs to someone ..

Mark : Good to see you back :), will check out your updates soon :)

Denton : good luck to you :)

Miss tango : got to check with Sam. I think it's best not to unless you're very sure ..

Lisi : oh, i got to check that post out!

Carlos : initially that's my guess ,too..i did saw many which were not tagged. I think Sam's and Nuno's theory are the nearest (???)

Thank you all for dropping by :)

OK, I feel better now knowing I wasnt the only one wondering whether the comment went thru but Nicola pointed out that you just have to refresh the page and its all good - I just have to be patient with waiting for the please wait thing to end since my internet connection is slow - but yeah, I thought the tagging of the pigeons were to monitor their flight patterns but others have better reasons so I do not know now =)
