More Graffiti

With the bench infront of the graffiti, this setting feels like in an art gallery. It just depends you'd prefer street art or nature. By the way, is it Bast or Rast? I could never understand what they paint!
Happy weekend!

The place no one wants to be

This is the building where you'll never want any business/association with. The last time I was at a court was due to a traffic offence which wasn't even my fault (everyone says that!), was alone and wasn't sure how I should behave..that's one unforgetable experience :p

Our humble court house (est.1912) covers the legal framework of the town and 10 other surrounding areas with 3 civil judges and 1 criminal judge. Usually the place is pretty deserted, which is a good sign, I suppose

Happy weekend everyone!

Viewing down from balcony

whilst clearing some knick knacks, I observed for +/-1 min. these birds walking on the back lane, liked the p.o.v and the casted shadows. So I rushed in to grab my camera and was little to late! some bikers passed, startled the birds while I was pushing the shutter..my intended snap vanished! oh, i'm seriously considering hanging my cam. on the neck 24-7 !

Olivier, I know what you have to say about pigeons :D

Lomo-fied

You know me, every now and then I like to give my photo a twist. The subject is a part of WWII memorial which I haven't published before. Applying the Lomo effect , with a hint of lights on the faces, i think has deepen the emotions of the statues on my photo.

Tutorial
To those who are interested, to achieve the crumpled paper effect. Firstly, scan a piece of crumpled A4 on your scanner. Next, in PS or Gimp apply multiply and merge your photo with scanned paper. Finally, finished off with lomo effect.

Walk and Talk

Sunday evening, time for strolling...from south to north or east to west, depending on our mood (or my photo vision). It is during this time that we make/talk silly jokes, politics, and of course serious stuff. The serious topic at the moment is the consideration (or rather decided) to move to another city. Exciment, doubts, more questions all expressed during this one to one and half hour walk. Will keep you updated :)

Have a great week ahead!

New vs Old

Exactly a year ago, an international mega market finally arrived in town. I know I was pretty excited because that was a more familiar style of shopping for me. All of sudden neigbourhood supermarts, such as this one, livelihood were threatened. One year on, fortunately things are still looking good for our neighbourly shop, and it did made some improvements. Strangely, now I'm more attach to this shop than the mega one.

pssst...
I'm participating internet shut down day which is today . To deal with my withdrawal, we planned a day trip out of town to watch movie "300" . Will check out your posts on Sunday.
Have a nice weekened, everyone!

Paint your wall

mirror, mirror on the wall, what shall we do with this cement wall?
~ give the students some paints and so murals will hang on this wall.

I recently discovered this wall of murals at Deak Ferenc school.
Enjoy your weekend, people! :)

A for ?

Today no background story or history to tell. Just want to share this scene which I came across yesterday. Been passing the rail tracks countless times (actually countable :) except I haven't seen these "A"s before and that's enough to get me excited!

Old time charm 2

Like any tv channels, today is re-run day for Szentes DP. We're back at Petőfi confectionary for their popular Lúdláb, literally translates to goose-foot, a type of chocolate cake with sour cherry fillings. However, my favourite from this 42-year old cáfe is francia krémes , French cream-filled pastry, the cream is smooth, and not too sweet..yum! The pastries aside, don't you just love those tiles floor?

Ok, got to go somewhere..see you later :)

Memoir of an oak tree (Chapter 1)

I was a gift from Márton Lőrincz*. He planted me infront of Petőfi elementary school 70 years ago, March 1937 to be exact. People here have treated me well, see- I've grown and grown! Today I have a visitor, I think I've seen him on his first day at the school . I overheard him telling his friend (Kris) that he still remembers the wonderful days he spent with his friends around me. Of course, that made my day :)

*Márton Lőrincz = 1936's Olympic champion for Hungary's Light weight wrestling.
He had originally wanted to plant this tree at his birth place, Translyvania but couldn't. and I couldn't find the reason why it was finally decided to place the tree in szentes.

Weird scene , take #123

Weird stuff I snapped during break ..the illuminated colours attracted me to make a closer inspection. Ah..balloons, but I dare not go too near for fear of being caught "in the act" (on the CCTV) for the premises belong to a bank!
I wish you a colourful Monday! Me, I'm ZZzzzzzzz

FYI, I discovered that some of your comments are going to my "spam" box (?) sorry, if i havent moderated yours, perhaps some i've mistaken and deleted !

Quack or waaak

Mark of Taunton DP reckons it should be "waaak" :D ..Quack for me!This week a lot of us posted ducks/swans, here's mine! Nothing much to say today, let's go out and see the nature (or sleep!). For us we might walk to the liget (park), bring a book, and me of course with my camera. Enjoy yourself.

Seasonal treat

We live near Füsti, a confectionery which starts to sell ice cream again after the cold season. Its hard trying to get fit for the swim suit season :p because whenever we pass the shop, I have an itch to get at least 2 scoops of different flavours! By end of spring/summer we'd tried all flavours. Personally, I think simple vanilla is still the best :)

Day after

The fashion must-have for yesterday's national day celebration is the rosette. Those who wore it, wore it so proudly! Enjoy your weekend everyone!

Fly with me

see larger for better quality

Today is "a day to mark the birth of modern parliamentary Hungary and the national festival of the Republic of Hungary". Let's hope we'll commemorate what Sándor Petőfi (and others) did for the country peacefully. Read more from Zsolt here

Family portrait

With one slice of bread, we headed to the Kurcha river to try to tempt the ducks. That family and couple of other children beat us to it! The ducks were probably full and were clearly not impressed with our offerings :p But this angle makes a lovely family portrait, don't you think? I only wished the quality was better.

Temető Ut (Cemetary St.)

I know for sure my mom would not approved of me going to a cemetary for no good reasons ('cos of her superstitions and etc), what more to take shots of headstones! Sincerely (to the souls) I mean no disrespect. I wouldn't have this intention if not for this hobby call - photography.

This cemetary is located at Temető Ut (Cemetary St.). I guess this an older site because most of the stones are, as you can see grimy and not attended to. Across the street there's a newer and more organised site but I've chosen this one for my project. Upon looking at the town's map, I realised there 3-4 other burial sites near the border which I think I'll not explore for now.

Did you know that Mariemcc of Alexandria DP has a site dedicated to cemetaries and headstones? Go read it here

First blossoms

Look what I found yesterday?
My first cherry blossom for the season..what a beauty!

I consider myself extremely lucky as "the trees bloom for not much longer than a week, and are seen in their full glory for only a couple of days. "

On this special occasion, I'll share one of the 2007 Honourable Mention Haiku

Quiet morning

Someone once commented that he dislike the plastic blades on the balconies..erm, I feel the same. But when the sun shines on it, for short moment, you see why the architect had used the material in that era. Happy weekend everyone!

Continuing on the theme of Architecture at my other blog, you may see more architecture photos of our beautiful capital, Budapest- here.

Ps. Cooking day for me...have to go, read your blogs later :)

Street scene today 14:14pm

"Hey, in reality everyday is women's day, when is Men's day?" - Mr. B

That was what my better half asked during dinner awhile ago..hahahaha. Whatever it is, its a wonderful day to give extra attention to the women in your life. Okay, I don't deny that men do deserve to be given a day of appreciation as well :) Happy women's day to you!
.
ps. am late! will read your blog in a bit as the internet is slow as snail !

The small things in life

"What was hard to bear is sweet to remember."

I woke up to find the above comment for this photo on my flickr page, I think the quote suited the shot perfectly. Don't you think?

Its nice being "philosophical" and all but I must get back to the topic for today ;) This man, me and many others rely on the local buses to get around town. For that, me and on behalf of others are thankful that our local bus system (4 lines altogether) run efficiently bring us to our local destinations within 18 minutes.

The daily question

what to cook today? Asking that question everyday can cause headaches!
The man in the photo found a solution :- get his lunch catered. All he needs to do is pick up his lunch (in food carrier) at the restaurant/caterer. A meal of soup and main dish cost about 2 Euros..convenient and economical.

Alternatively, like our clever neighbour who simply copies the daily menu (displayed outside restaurant) and cook it herself at home ;)

What about you?

Season to be married

Spring-summer, let the wedding season begins! To lend a helping hands to brides to-be, the county hall organised a first-ever bridal fair recently. Bridal fashion, accessories, anything wedding related all in one place..It was, of couse, a good chance for the county hall to market itself as a desired wedding location. After all, wedding business can be lucrative ;) I think the future bride may walk away even more confuse with so many choices :p

The couple (isn't that gown gorgeous?) you see above was a real couple getting registered on the day of the fair, witnessed by all visitors of the fair. Me, I had fun playing shadow wedding photographer, even if it was for few seconds..

Saying good bye to winter 2007

Bonfire and fireworks in the rain? At first I was too lazy to pull myself from the couch to go for the bonfire but am glad I did. The turn out was encouraging as well. Couldnt get a good pic of fireworks, sorry.
That wasn't the end of the karnevál, next was back to the auditorium where rock band Zanzibar is awaiting to perform. Me, of course I'm happy to go back to my couch :)

*reflection effect was done with dumpr.net which i'm addicted!

Saying good bye to winter

The official Karnevál is ongoing since yesterday. It kicks off to a slow start due to the rain. As usual the atmosphere picked up by the end of the programme with free flow of mulled wine. If you'll excuse me, today's activities will start at 9am..I don't wanna miss the "kiddie" train ride!

Enjoy the weekend everyone!

People, revisited

Anyone of you recognised her?
Was waiting outside the library and this industrious woman cleaning her balcony caught my attention. In my mind I thought what is she doing outside in this windy weather, it was VERY chilly. Then, I recognised that she was the exact woman I featured in this blog a year ago (Link) ! How nice to see her again :)

*the stripes on the wall were weak shadow which i enchanced with photofilter.

DP Theme Day : Men at work

Men hard at work...NOT! Well, perhaps waiting for the chief to give the orders ?
.
See men at work around the word *wink*
Due to time zone differences and other factors, the theme photo may not be displayed until later if you are viewing early in the day.
